Today started like a dream.

Four groups of kids working on ELA tasks.

In the middle we continued our study of the brain and growth mindset.

Later we worked on subtraction number stories.

And ended with an extra recess because of great progress in staying on task.

It was a great start to Kindness Week at NR!!!

I forgot to take my phone to the Kindness assembly, some fourth graders did a wonderful dance and about 15 students were honored with Kindness certificates. One even to a friend in our class! Way to go!!!

We had some time to write about our birds we created last Friday, read a book about a birthday pet, and practiced writing the letter L.

After lunch we had the joy of working with our 2nd grade buddies on a Valentine's Day sort and graph activity.

And ended the day by decorating our Valentine jugs. We are so excited to fill them tomorrow!!!

A couple of photos from today:

This was the hardest reader yet. And the kids rocked it!!!

To end our week we did a little research on four Kansas animals, then filled in a research paper.

Before lunch I led a directed drawing of a bird in a cage.

After PE was time to add color. Some used water colors, others used crayons.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!!!

Popping in real quick to share a couple of photos.

We have been working very hard this week on being a good partner, taking turns and helping each other.

Here are some examples of today:

Sorting words into short and long i words.

Working on what is the same with the animals and then telling why they chose it.

I'm very proud of the readers and writers that they are becoming. Keep up the great work!!!

We started our day by starting a 3-week study on animals. Today we read a story about baby animals, then compared and contrasted two animals. Later the kids read a little book about animals.

The high frequency words for this week are have, for. The fluency this week is My Tooth.

For math we practiced making stories about combinations to 8. (3 blocks on the floor and 5 blocks in the box are 8 blocks all together)

As a Classbuilding activity today I taught the kids Inside Outside circle. And gave them 4 different partners to talk about the questions I asked (what is your favorite restaurant, what is your favorite color, etc).

And our Teambuilding activity was to come up with a group name. This really took compromise and imagination.

Looking forward to a GREAT week ahead!!!

Today the exciting thing was a kindness/making a difference craft.

I showed a Kid President video about making a difference.

And then we worked on the craft. It is finished and hanging in our hallway. Stop by and see how these wonderful kindergarteners are going to change the world with their two hands.
