Kids worked hard today. Grew their brains!

Finding the ten and ones of the teen numbers is starting to click!

And writing numbers past 20, and learning the pattern is keeping some of the kids on their toes!!!

Recess was a blast (even if it was chilly).

Ice cream sandwiches were a wonderful way to celebrate a year full of learning and growing!

I feel like I barely saw the kids today...

Right away Mrs. Rogers had a lesson with them about ways to get calm when they are feeling in the red zone. I was not in, because I was finishing up my Aimsweb testing.

Then they had art with Mrs. Voth and drew a giraffe that was moving (I think).

In math we counted to 100, and then saw the pattern of the written numbers to 100. I think this will click soon (if it hasn't already).

Then we wrote stories about families. Mostly the kids chose to write stories about their families. I LOVE that I can read them!!!

After lunch Mrs. Gering was the teacher for the rest of the day while I went to a meeting. I was not sure I would be able to go, because my original sub canceled at the last minute.

I think they had a great afternoon.

It was hat day and for sure fun to see a variety of hats around school.

Kindergarten is a wonderful place to be these days (and all days, really).

The students practiced the long e sound (spelled ee), and discovered our high frequency words "come" and "does." Boy were they shocked to see how they are spelled after saying the sounds and thinking that they knew how to spell them.

In reading we are studying all types of families and how things can be sorted into families. The students sorted buttons and told how they sorted.

In math we continue to work with numbers in the teens. For 15 we say ten five, and that helps us write the next number ten six (16). They can easily go between the way we count and the "say ten" way of counting.

Our chapter book read aloud The Doll People is getting exciting. The students love drawing and writing about the story. I looked up and she had written the words "the basement." I asked her how did you know how to spell that? She looked at me as if I was crazy, "I said the sounds." All of the students are soooooooo good at listening to the sounds and being able to then write the word. They rarely ask me how to spell something, and if they do, I just unblend the word, and off they go to write it on their own.

Magic.

I'm looking forward to more magic tomorrow!

We came home tired, thirsty and happy.
