I really wanted to post yesterday, but just didn't get to it!

This week we tackle how animals help each other, the long e sound (ee, ea, ie, e), the beginning of writing a report, and place value.

Place value is HARD in first grade. But I am happy to report that most of the kids are getting it. We have been playing a lot of games, and they can mostly answer questions like:
1. How many tens in 78? (7)
2. How many ones in 78? (8)
3. What does 7 stand for in 78? (70)
4. What does 8 stand for in 87? (8)

Yesterday we used "Hide the zero" cards and today we showed the numbers using dimes and pennies. It was fantastic. The kids were fantastic. I am able to see that each day the students who struggle, struggle a little less and more are eager to give correct answers!

Yesterday we read a small story about Groundhog Day. So after lunch I pulled up the video of Punxsutawney Phil from this morning and we were quite sad that he did not see his shadow. We were hoping for a shadow and more WINTER. Oh well, it was fun to see.

Some photos from yesterday and today...
