Welcome to a fun week in Kindergarten! (Who am I kidding, every week is fun!!!)

We began the day with a fun reindeer fluency (facts about reindeer), and then jumped right into learning a new sound (the long a sound, spelled a, consonant, e, like in wave).

The kids are real pros at hearing sounds in all the positions of a word and then making connections to previous learning to learn something new. Way to go kids! This will take them far!!!

After science (some kids were able to test a house--maybe a three little pigs house, I'm not for sure), we watched a short video to continue our study of kindness. It is called Color Your World with Kindness, and we watched for ways the people were kind. (The video is linked just below.)

The kids used a new Kagan structure called Round Table. (Every child gets a turn and must say something before it is the next person's turn). They responded to "What did you see in the video that was kind?" They were allowed to repeat other ideas, but the idea is to keep everyone talking and listening. Here is a picture from that time. (The finger pointer is to designate whose turn it is to speak.)

I had the opportunity to teach four groups during our 30 minute ELA rotation. These groups are fluid, change as the children learn and apply their knowledge.

We do not have any new high frequency words this week (it's a review week). As I read aloud our Big Book from Wonders I noticed how many words the kids COULD read. By the end of the book I had many of the kids reading it with me and not just listening. I am so proud that they are using their skills and becoming readers!

During math the groups used play dough and balances to weigh and compare balls of play dough. By the time we were done, we were glad it was recess time!!! They did great, but it was time to get outside and play, run, and yell in the sunshine.

We finished up our Needs/Wants packet, and I am pleased with the writing and understanding of needs and wants. There was just enough time to create a reindeer face that we hung from our ceiling to make our room a bit more festive.

Get ready to learn some more fun facts about reindeer this week!!!
