Jumping Into the "Stuff" of First Grade

The day started off great with a read aloud and talking about being respectful. This is a life-long habit and we will work on it every day.

Reviewing the alphabet is not the most fun, but hopefully is will be quick and I can find more ways to make it engaging.

To introduce "Nouns" we watched a clip from BrainPopJr. Nouns can be tricky, but with all year to practice, they should get it!

I was able to include a SmartBoard game that reviewed if a letter is a vowel or a consonant.

As a part of our math, the students complete a Sprint. It is 60 or 90 seconds to do a math fluency sheet. Today they counted dots, or "just knew" the number and wrote it down. It is tricky, because it's new, but we will keep working and get better.

That's a real quick snapshot of our day.

More soon...
