Fun Friday

What a fantastic day!!!

One of the highlights of the year is seeing the students interact with family members. Today was a good example of that.

Grandparents came to school to have breakfast with the students and then most students showed the Grands around the room. It was great to meet many of the Grands.

We kept on going with reading. Before we started centers today I introduced another critter.

Meet Feature Flamingo. He helps us understand nonfiction books, by thinking about the text features. Our nonfiction text had many photographs, and that was the text feature for this week. I think we talk about a new text feature every week.

This is our sensory bin. Students can use it during reading centers. This week highlighted short a words. The student picks out a word, and draws a picture of it. Two kids can be at this center together.

In the middle of the reading time we had a special visitor in our class. Mrs. Fischer. (Sorry, I forgot to take a picture--I was so excited she was in our room.) Mrs. Fischer spoke a little about her role at WRLC. As the year goes on, the kids will probably have times that they want someone to talk to, and she is a great listener, so I wanted them to recognize her and start the familiarization process.

When we finished our reading time (and yes, I got to meet with two groups again) we had a tiny break and then forged into the first Wonders (our reading series book) test. It was quite exciting to see how well the kids did, with the content and taking a test that required them to "bubble" in the correct answer. It was multiple choice.

And then, the time we had been waiting for...The Electronic Party!!! Fun, joy, lovely. :)

After lunch the students that have earned one or more green tickets at lunch got to redeem them in the office. And then we took the RC cars outside for a bigger area to party.

Next? A birthday party! We sang, and wrote letters to the birthday child. I love that they know the routine and have an authentic reason to learn and write letters.

If the kids are anything like me--we are all going to need to rest this weekend! It was a week full of learning and growing. Happy weekend!!
