The Tuesday that was a Monday

Two new critters showed up!

1. Picturing Penguin helps us visualize (make pictures in our head) of the story we are reading.

2. Eagle Eyes says--pay close attention to the letters in a word, then you can read it.

I met with a mix of kids during centers today. They practiced SOS and rhyming. I'm so pleased that we have a strong foundation for reading and spelling and the procedures to tackle this big first grade job.

After lunch I read a chapter of Roxie. It was funny that later at recess I found a group of girls trying out the rabbit cry on several teachers. Talk about text to self connection!!!

At math we worked on more missing number addition problems like: There were 6 rabbits on the playground. 1 had some babies, now there are 10. How many babies were born?

Loved seeing the different ways that the kids solved the problems.

We finished up the day by making our September quilt. I still have to put it together, and then it will hang in our classroom. It is a geometry lesson and a lesson in listening.

Super glad that the rain held off for recess and dismissal!
