It was another beautiful day in kindergarten!

We started the day with another sound that digraph oo makes. The sound that is heard in good, book, cook. Now they know that digraph oo has two sounds, in the future, I will teach how to use those two sounds to read unfamiliar words. The character is Woody Woodchuck.

I don't remember why the kids were in pairs talking in these photos, but it was good to give them a reason to talk and use social skills with their classmates.

And here is a quick game I came up with before lunch. I said a high-frequency word, and the entire table had to have it correct on their whiteboard before the group could stand up. We tried to see who could do it the fastest.

The great thing about this game: kids helping kids get the right answer, in a helpful and compassionate way!

And recess! Swinging is such a GREAT physical activity. It has something to do with development, but when kids can swing by themselves (know how to "pump'), it is a GREAT thing. So, I am so happy to have six swings and see them full almost every recess with kids swinging without someone pushing them. WAY TO GO!!!

Math is a continual work in shapes. The game we played was: I put solid shapes in a bag, said a name (like cylinder or sphere) and they had to find it by feel only, then tell me why they chose it (it has corners and four sides are shaped like a rectangle--it must be a rectangular prism). Oh the kids could not get enough of this game. I will have to do it again!

We ended the day celebrating our friend who is having a birthday on Sunday.

Hope you all enjoy your weekend and the wonderful fall weather we are having.
