Happy All Day Kindergarten!!!

I really loved having everyone together, and the "extra" time to do the "things" of kindergarten.

The kids seemed to manage well. They chose seats for working without much trouble while working on our new letter x.

As part of our Social Studies curriculum, I teach a lot of social skills. Today the kids got to practice how to talk and take turns with a partner. Magic. Smiles. And lots of great sharing. Made my teacher heart happy! We also greeted each other around our circle (to learn names and to practice saying hello).

We continued to practice how to read (top to bottom, left to right and point to every word), and our hippos (formerly known as centers or stations, but I like this fun name, so we call this time--work on our hippos).

One of our classmates had a birthday today and she wanted to celebrate with us and brought cupcakes. Super fun!

Math continues to be a great time. Counting to 5, and concretely finding pairs within a number (we had 5 blocks, if I take two off, the hidden number is 3).

At one point I was having the kids move from one part of the room to another, and challenged them to move like a snake. I didn't expect this much fun, but they really liked this. A different way to move, and a time to make some noise.

All day kindergarten means--TWO recesses. Boy were they fun, and so many kids to play with.

The Kinder Kids had a big afternoon of specials. First they met Miss Plagmann (the music teacher).

Then Mrs. Denno (the PE teacher, and she says THANK YOU for remembering to have tennis shoes on everyone today!)

Lastly, they saw Mrs. Bowen, the librarian, who they already know.

Today was fun, exhausting, and a great indicator of a wonderful year ahead! Bring it!
